Having got their season up and running with a draw in the midweek prior it was hoped Barnet could build on this at home against York on Saturday, but they couldn't.
York were well in control with only a little over 15-minutes on the clock after goals from Daniel Parslow (7) and Ashley Chambers (16).
Jon Nurse (30) gave Barnet hope on the half hour mark but on the stroke of half time Michael Coulson (45) extended the visitors lead again.
There were chances for The Bees in the second half, Nurse and Anthony Edgar went close, as the home side laid siege on the York goal in the early stages of the second period but there was no way back.
Nurse's injury, which saw him carried off on a stretcher, added injury to insult in a 3-1 defeat.
