Heart And Intention But Costly Errors
Barnet paid the penalty, quite literally, on Tuesday night when a missed spot kick played its part on another defeat being felt.
An early chance to settle the nerves, and set the Bees on their way, came along when a penalty was awarded. Up stepped Marciano Mengerink, however the Dutchman saw his effort turned away by Rhys Taylor...
Macclesfield made the Bees pay for this with Jennings striking twice with Mauro Vilhete's late goal a mere consolation.
Edgar Davids, who recalled himself to the starting XI for his first outing of the season, took some positives from this 2-1 defeat but knows that errors continue to prove costly, and conceding from set plays is something that must be addressed.
He said: 'It is sad because today I saw a lot of heart and a lot of good intentions. But two errors have then made it hard for us. In the second half we got the goal but it was too late.
'It was definitely an improvement on Saturday because if we had played for another hour on Saturday we wouldn't have won the game but today I felt if we had another five minutes we would have got the draw.
'But you can't concede from set-pieces, that is a given. If you do then that shows when you are not sharp when you need to be.'
Barnet are going through a rocky patch at the moment but enough was shown, with Davids' quality evident on the evening by all accounts, to suggest this can be overcome fairly quickly with us getting back on track.
Cutting out the mistakes that are proving so costly is a must though...
